Nigerian Community Association in Queensland Inc is committed to providing quality services to our community members, guests, and sponsors. This policy outlines our ongoing obligations to you and how we manage personal information (PI).
We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern how we collect, use, disclose, store, secure, and dispose of your PI.

What is Personal Information, and why do we collect it?
Personal information (PI) is a data set to distinguish a specific individual. Examples of PI we collect include names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.
PI is collected in many ways, including correspondence by email, newsletter sign-up, contact us form, and via our website https://www.nigeriansinqld.org.au, from social media and publications. We do not guarantee website links or the policy of authorized third parties.
We collect your PI to provide services to our customers and disseminate information to our guests and members. You may unsubscribe from our mailing lists by contacting us through our admin email.
Sensitive Information
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record, or health information.
NCAQ may access sensitive information:
- For the primary purpose for which we obtained the data.
- With your consent; or where required or authorized by law.
Third Parties
Where reasonable and practicable to do so, we will collect your personal information only from you. No matter the circumstances, we will not collect information from third parties. We will always take reasonable steps to ensure your PI is safe.
Disclosure of Personal Information
Disclosure of personal information to third party organizations may occur in circumstances that may include:
- Where you give consent to the use or disclosure; and
- Where required or authorized by law.
Security of Personal Information
The personal information we collect is secure in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. When we no longer need your PI for the purpose we collected it, we will take reasonable steps to permanently de-identify your PI.
Access to your Personal Information
You may access the personal information we hold about you and can update it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your PI, sign into your account or contact us through our admin email.
Maintaining the Quality of your Personal Information
It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete, and up to date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us as soon as practicable so we can update our records and ensure we can continue to provide quality services to you.
